Zimmer Biomet manufactures joint implants and provides a range of sterile surgical kits and implants from their main UK site in Bridgend. The production process requires a wide range of equipment and services and incorporates high precision machining, polishing, coating, sterilisation, quality control and packing for direct distribution to hospitals. In addition to the direct process use of energy, the complex manufacturing processes are supported by clean rooms and sterile services requiring exacting standards of operation and maintenance.
ESOS Energy Audit
Zimmer Biomet has been committed to reducing its impact on the environment including the reduction of energy and viewed ESOS as an opportunity to drive further savings. They requested a thorough wide ranging energy survey of the manufacturing and support services for the ESOS programme. This identified significant fast track financial savings, £190,000/year available from rapid payback opportunities (<1 year) for immediate implementation, and a further £115,000/year that could be realised through longer term investments that needed to be incorporated in the long term site development plans.
